What’s the pilot episode about?
The great secret of illusionist Cameron Black is revealed when his twin brother, unknown to the public,is framed for murder after a staged accident. For Cameron,it’s clear that someone with similar talent from his industry must be responsible, and when he suspects that person is behind a tricky escape,he joins the FBI to provide support and get to the unknown.
After having to do some convincing work with Agent Daniels and her both sceptical (Laila Robins) and open-minded (Amaury Nolasco) colleagues,he gathers his team (Lenora Crichlow,Justin Chon,Vinnie Jones),which usually supports him behind the stage of his shows,to lure the escaped drug baron into a trap and arrest him.The solution to this case brings him one step closer to the mysterious woman (Stephanie Corneliussen) who has it in for him.But to achieve his goal, further cooperation with the FBI is on the agenda.
“Castle” with magic and a touch of “The Mentalist”
The idea of the Crime-Procedural with Twist is definitely no novelty and Deception makes no secret of his inspiration from series like Castle or The Mentalist or movies like “The Incomprehensible”,because especially when it comes to “Castle”-parallels,only the bulletproof vest with the inscription “Magician” is missing to complete his appearance. These role models relied mainly on charismatic actors with strong chemistry, which has been rather lukewarm in the case of Jack Cutmore-Scott (Cooper Barrett’s Guide to Surviving Life) and Ilfenesh Hadera (Billions).
