Greenleaf: Start date and new commitments for season 3

The American broadcaster OWN has announced the start date for the third season of the mega-church drama Greenleaf. Also unveiled were the names of two new actors: Beau Bridges and Iyanla Vanzant.

The third season of Greenleaf is scheduled to start on OWN on 28 and 29 August with a double premiere. According to the deadline, the commitments of the guest stars Beau Bridges (Masters of Sex) and Iyanla Vanzant (“Peace from Broken Pieces”) were also announced. The former won two Emmy Awards in the course of his long career, bringing him to a proud 13 nominations. He has also appeared in Homeland, Mosaic, Black-ish and Bloodline. The latter visited Jane the Virgin last year.

After the return of Grace (Merle Dandridge) to Memphis in season three of the drama series, not only the existence of her family’s church is at stake, but also the cohesion of her family itself. Meanwhile, everyone is still shocked by the discovery that Bishop (Keith David) was unfaithful to Lady Maes (Lynn Whitfield) sister Mavis (Oprah Winfrey). Rochelle Cross (LeToya Luckett) had previously steered Bishop and Lady Mae on a direct collision course. The divorce now seems inevitable.

Greenleaf is about a megachurch in Memphis led by Bishop James Greenleaf (Keith David), who according to the series description has as many scandalous secrets as believers. Besides Lynn Whitfield as bishop’s wife Lady Mae Greenleaf, Merle Dandridge as daughter Grace Greenleaf and Desiree Ross as daughter Sophia, station chief Oprah Winfrey takes on a recurring supporting role as Mavis McCready.
